<description>Number 23 follows the law of fives first written about in the Principia Discordia.

The Law of Fives states simply that: ALL THINGS HAPPEN IN FIVES, OR ARE DIVISIBLE BY OR ARE MULTIPLES OF FIVE, OR ARE SOMEHOW DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY APPROPRIATE TO 5.
The Law of Fives is never wrong.

The Law of Fives includes the word "Five" five times.

Discordians recognize the holy 23 because 2 + 3 = 5.

Also it seems to borrow a bit from the banned play "The King in Yellow" written about by Robert Chambers in 1895 in the short story "Repairer of Reputations" found in Chamber's King in Yellow book.
If you can find it check out
The Yellow Sign and Other Stories: The Complete Weird Tales of Robert W. Chambers

Chambers is a great writer, but he stopped writing horror stories and started writing romance stories which made him very rich. He is only now remembered for his earlier horror stories, and only his horror stories are in print although he wrote many books.

Lovecraft stated "Chambers is like Rupert Hughes and a few other fallen Titans - equipped with the right brains and education but wholly out of the habit of using them."</description>
